"Time Freak"

Image
Is there a moment where you wish you could go back and do it all over? Sure, we wouldn't be human if we didn't wish we could undo some big mistake we made at some point in our lives. Have things turn out differently than they actually did, hopefully for the better. Obviously we can't just call up Doc Brown and ask to borrow his car, so we live with the consequences, but others choose to a different method. Based on the short film of the same name, writer and director Andrew Bowler brings his story full circle into a full length motion picture. After a year of dating physics major Stillman (Asa Butterfield) is stunned when his aspiring musician girlfriend Debbie (Sophie Turner) breaks up with him. Rather than grieving and moving on, he decides to look back over the past year to see where it all went wrong leading him to build a time machine that sends him back as himself at that point in time along with his slacker friend Evan (Skyler Gisondo) to help him along the way

"The Farm"

Image
In a world where we try to be so careful what we eat and where our food comes from, we don't always care to know how it gets from the animal to the table and how it gets there can be a frightening concept. Nora (Nora Yessayan) and Alec (Alec Gaylord) are a couple looking to get away for a quiet romantic getaway. Stopping for the night at a rural B&B with a loner landlord (Ken Volok), they have not a care in the world, until the next morning. Finding themselves in separate cages with no idea where the other one is or where or how they came to be there. Staffed by farmhands wearing animals mask and saying not a word, they find they are not the only ones being imprisoned there and that the unfortunate people there are being treated like livestock, used for the meat and milk with no acknowledgement of the fact they're human beings just like them. It soon becomes clear to Nora that this cult-like community has no good intentions for them and that she must find Alec and esc

"Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story"

Image
In 1887 New York, one woman that went by the pen name Nellie Bly changed the world of journalism becoming the first investigative journalist and writing a ninety-six page piece that would shock the world with the horrors she witnessed inside the walls of a madhouse. This year, Christina Ricci portrays Nellie Bly and her ten day nightmare. Finding herself with no memory other than the name Nellie Brown (Christina Ricci), this young woman makes headlines in all the papers as to who is the insane girl that showed up on the streets and was brought to the women's insane asylum on Blackwell's Island just outside the city. Under the care of Matron Grady (Judith Light) and Dr. Josiah (Josh Bowman) Nellie undergoes the worst treatment imaginable from bathing in cold filthy water to the harsh labor and abusive treatment from Matron Grady and her staff of nurses in deplorable conditions. Nellie comes to find many of the women there are as sane as the next person and are wrongfully t

"I Still See You" versus "Ride" (2018)

It's a new year and with that we have our first MoVTie Critic's "Movie Versus". For those who are not familiar with this, I pick two films with similar themes (or in this case the same actress) and have them go head to head for the most G.M.Stars. Today we have two films starring former Disney Channel star from the show "Shake It Up" Bella Thorne. It's ghost versus psychos in this faceoff so let's get started. First up is the suspenseful horror film "I Still See You". We follow Veronica Calder (Bella Thorne) as she tells of how life is ten years after an apocalyptic event that wiped out millions of lives but left behind ghost of those lost. These ghost seem to repeat a moment in their lives and fade away without any acknowledgement of the world of the living around them. Yet as Veronica's birthday approaches, she encounters a ghost of a man who she's never seen before that leaves her a message to run. Convinced that there may

"Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero"

Image
Animals and man have been working together since early man domesticated the wild wolves to become man's best friend. Since then, birds have delivered messages, cats have eliminated disease-ridden vermin and dogs work along side our men and women in uniform, yet there is one dog that still outranks them all and is still the most decorated dog to date, Sgt. Stubby. Taking place in Connecticut when America is about to take their stand in Europe against the Germans, a recruit named Robert Conroy (Logan Lerman) makes an unlikely friendship when a stray dog wanders onto their training grounds and bonds with him. Narrated throughout this story by his sister Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter) from the letters he wrote, it tells the story of how this dog would go from a loveable mascot to an Army hero as he follows Conroy along with his fellow soldiers/friends Olson (Jordan Beck), German-American Schroeder (Jim Pharr) and a French soldier that they come to befriend during their tour in F

"The Super"

Image
Life can change in an instant, but what comes after can be more uncertain than the event that led you to this moment. Most of the time, we bounce back and find a calm in all the chaos. Yet when chaos ensues around you, it's difficult to get settled and can be even terrifying. Single father Phil Lodge (Patrick John Flueger) has gone from being an officer to a super for an old luxury apartment complex and forcing his daughters Violet (Taylor Richardson) and young Rose (Mattea Conforti) in to a less than desirable Super's office filled with junk. Some of the residents are friendly like Beverley (Louisa Krause) and a new friend Violet makes Vondell (Travaris Spears) but there are those that come off a little creepy like the other super Walter (Val Kilmer). As the family gets settled, they learn that residents have been suddenly disappearing without any notice and leaving their things behind. Most believe they just up and left, but Phil can't shake the feeling that someth

"The Little Mermaid" (2018)

Image
Just about everyone has heard one version of "The Little Mermaid" or another whether it was the classic 1989 Disney version or Hans Christian Anderson's original version that has a very different ending that is often misunderstood today rather than seeing what the heroine of the story accomplishes (sorry no spoilers, read the original yourself). This time, we get a taste of the original with a twist to the story that has never been told. We start off the story with a grandmother (Shirley MacLaine) telling her granddaughters a story of how she knows mermaids are real. She tells of a girl named Elle (Loreta Peralta) who suffers from an undiagnosed illness living with her reporter Uncle Cam (William Moseley) after losing her parents. Despite her illness keeping her from playing like most girls her age, she has a mind full of wonder and belief in magical creatures where Cam is more skeptical and believes only in the facts. So when a sideshow circus is advertising magica

"Behind the Walls" (2018)

Moving into a new home is never an easy thing. Many people have mixed emotions about it, especially if they've come there in hopes of finding something better than what they left behind. Yet when you put all your hopes in dreams into a two story four wall structure, you may find that the house may have its own ideas for you. Kathy Harper (Vanessa Angel) is putting all her hopes into this old house that she and her three children Michael (Hutch Dano), a young twenty-something who's torn between being there for his family and continuing his education and the young twins Karrie and Derry (Taylor Autumn Bertman and Mason Mahay) who are kids trying to handle the changes with moving and understanding why their father Michael Harper Sr. (Joseph Gilbert) is gone. While Kathy tries to move on from the abusive marriage, the family soon starts to realize that instead of escaping a bad situation, they may have very well made a home in one. The house starts to show signs that it has

"F.R.E.D.I."

Today's technology is pretty impressive and is growing more amazing all the time. Since the 80's people have had a fascination with robots and artificial intelligence and how these metal beings can somehow seem as real as we are. This film is no exception and adds a touch of excitement when forced to see how far you'll go for your robotic friend. James Nash (Lucius Hoyos) has been having a tough time lately with his mother gone and his father Randy Nash (Tyler Christopher) about to lose his business and their home. Yet when James finds a mysterious metal object, it turns his world upside down. The metal object turns out to be a robot called F.R.E.D.I. (voiced by Candace Cameron Bure) and finds an unlikely friendship in this robotic protector programmed to do good for people, but it isn't long when James learns he's not the only one looking for F.R.E.D.I. The company that F.R.E.D.I. was created at and its CEO Grant (Angus Macfayden) is determined to get it back

Happy 2019 to all you movie lovers! Almost a year ago I started this blog to give me a chance to let me use my writing skills and talk about something I love and share it with the world. It's been a great year and I've done over 160 post since then. With a new year means more movies to come and I'm excited to get started. One particular film caught my attention this past year that I'd like to kick off the new year with. Clara (Libby Blayton) has been through a lot in her life. Serving in the army and now trying to escape a bad marriage and start over with her life. Yet her husband Charles (Robert Pralgo) refuses to let her just walk away and with money and a psychotic personality, he decides the only thing to do is to have her killed. Sending in Steven (Ofu Obekpa, who is also director and writer of this film) is sent in under the rouse as a cable repair man to get the layout of her home, but finds himself being drawn to Clara and soon decides he can't go thro
