"Garage Sale Mysteries" "The Mask Murder" vs. "Picture A Murder" vs. "Murder in D Minor"

Image
In an effort to catch up on the many movies I've been viewing, I have decided to do another one of my "Movie Verses" with a special twist. This time we're doing head to head to head with the Garage Sale Mysteries final three films for the Summer of Mysteries special to round out the end of summer. With school getting back in session, its time to get schooled in sleuthing as these three try to solve the mystery of who gets the most Green Mountain Stars. Up first is the second chapter "The Mask Murder". Jennifer Shannon (Lori Loughlin) is up to it again when she purchases a storage unit full of antiques at a storage auction, but when she is told about a similar unit and goes to get a peak inside before the next auction, she gets more than she bargained for, the body of a young woman. Things quickly get strange when some items from the storage unit she and her partner Dani (Sarah Strange) bring back to their antiq

"The Crossbreed"

They say that pregnancy and motherhood can bring out the best times and the best in you. Though there are those who see it all as the exact opposite for various reasons. Abuse in their past, unplanned and uncertain of the future, though many don't have it putting you at the center of something evil. Amy (Angela Durazo) is a young journalist who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant. Distraught by this, she takes the advice of her friend Rose (Katy Bentz) she gets an abortion without telling her boyfriend John (Nathan Schellerup) right before they're both assigned to go to a remote town to cover a story about a pregnant woman that was said to have birthed something evil on the world. Little by little, Amy begins to suspect that this was more than a story and that the evil has plans for her that are linked to her past. As she races to find answers, she will soon learn that neither God nor the Devil can stop what is coming for her. Creepy, yet underrated plot. While I loved h

"Alien Showdown: The Day The Old West Stood Still"

Image
Throughout history, man has looked to the skies and wondered if we are alone in the universe. Since Roswell, we've come to believe that it may be a possibility and have written books and movies as to what might happen should our two worlds meet. Yet there have been few that have spanned the factor of time. In 1854, the golden age of the old west, Reinhard (Robert Amstler) a good-hearted cowboy who goes out of his way to steal back a stolen crucifix to a town's church finds a bounty on his head by the man who stole it and the lawless marshal and his goons out to collect it, but they find more than they bargain for when a mysterious object crash lands in the woods. As the chase to get Reinhard engages, Reinhard finds himself becoming the unlikely hero against a monstrous alien invader (also played by Robert Amstler). With the given knowledge from a grey alien (voice of Anthony Sant'Anselmo) that is Earth's last ally, he must find a way to protect Earth from a poten

"Alex and the List"

We all do things for those we love. Sometimes we go the extra mile with our appearance, or wear their favorite color even if it isn't your favorite, or even sit through the chick flick movie of the year when you would rather go watch the latest Dwayne Johnson movie right next door. We do crazy things for love, but would you be willing to change yourself for them so they'll stay with you? Alex (Patrick Fugit) is a nice, fairly good-looking guy who is great at his job as a dog trainer and is in love with a smart, beautiful woman named Katherine (Jennifer Morrison). When Alex decides that he wants to pop the question, he's taken for a loop when she presents him with a list of changes she wants him to make to himself before she's willing to make a lifelong commitment. At first he's in disbelief, but with some advise from his childhood female friend Lily (Karen Gillan), he decides to make the effort and agrees to complete the list. Varying from a new wardrobe to co

"The Last Sharknado: It's About Time"

Image
In 2013, the world was introduced to one of the most absurd and yet surprisingly addictive Sharknado movie on Syfy. Since then it has developed both a loyal cult following and five more installments, and last night was the premiere of what is said to be the final installment to end it all. Going the only place the Sharknado has not gone before, back in time. Picking up immediately where the last movie left off, Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) has traveled back in time to the Jurassic Period to try and stop the first Sharknado in the hopes it will save humanity and his family from their horrible fate in the future. Finding himself reunited with old friends like Nova (Cassandra Scerbo), Bryan (Judah Friedlander) Skye (Vivica A. Fox) and his beloved wife April (Tara Reid) who explains how their son Gill who has been traveling through the vortex through time in the Sharknado saved them before their assumed untimely deaths in earlier films. Taking on megalodons and fighting off dinosaurs,

Before getting to the latest review, I need to apologize to anyone who views regularly for my absence. With being under the weather and some family obligations making time to sit down and type on a computer difficult I've been behind on talking about the "Movies You May Have Missed". Luckily I've been seeing plenty lately and have many more to come your way soon. Now for the latest entry. Women today while we have more freedom and independence than we did 50-70 years ago, there are those who often take advantage of that "free spirit" and it can turn deadly, but when pushed to your limit, how far would you go to make those pay for their sins? Jen (Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz) is a young twenty-something with dreams of L.A. and living life to the fullest. When she takes a trip Richard's (Kevin Janssens) isolated home in the middle of a desert canyon for a romantic weekend, she has no idea of how drastic things will turn when his hunting buddies Stan (Vi

"The Death of Superman"

With all the superhero films coming out this year, it can make it tough to keep up with all the stories. Yet DC Comics is no slouch when it comes to delivering a punch with its original animated motion pictures portraying its great heroes in their darkest hours, and this film may be the darkest hour the DC Universe will face. With the Justice League well established, heroes like Superman (Jerry O' Connell) Batman (Jason O'Mara), Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson), Aquaman (Matt Lanter), The Flash (Christopher Gorham), Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Cyborg (Shemar Moore) and Martian Manhunter (Nyambi Nyambi) have been making the world a better place, but superhero life doesn't make life easy. Now in a relationship with Lois Lane (Rebecca Romijn, Jerry O'Connell's wife) Clark Kent (also Jerry O'Connell of course) is at the crossroads where he must decide to let Lois in on his alter ego's life or keep her protected by keeping her at arm's length from hi

"Dark Crimes"

When we watch a film that is based or inspired by actual events, that's not to say Hollywood doesn't take liberties with the screenplay. In "Remember The Titans" when a brick is thrown through Denzel Washington's character's window in actuality it was an old toilet but Disney decided to change that to a brick to "clean up" the story. Yet when you come across a story worth telling, one that is dark and twisted sometimes it needs no real changes because truth is often stranger than fiction. Tadek (Jim Carrey in one of his rare dramatic roles) is a Poland police officer who has a chip on his shoulder because of an unsolved case involving a man assassinated in a strange manner. Finding connections to a underground sex club and hair-raising similarities written in a controversial book as to how this man was executed. Turning his attention to the author Krystov Kozlow and his girlfriend Kasia (Charlotte Gainsbourg) who is one of the sex workers. As T

For those who have kids, we know the challenges that come from adjusting to life with a new baby and the struggles that come with it. Constant crying, lack of rest and the demanding schedule they have. Usually we steady ourselves and march on and find a way to roll with it, unless you're being haunted. Chloe van Heerden (Reine Swart) finds herself in that boat becoming a young mom to a baby boy and having to return home to live with her mother Ruby (Thandi Puren) who comes off resentful to the fact that Chloe had run away only to come back pregnant and give no insight as to who the father is. Yet despite the rocky reunion, Chloe tries her best to adjust to motherhood, but it seems to be an impossible task as she begins to have horrifying visions of harming her baby and a frightening woman in a black dress and bonnet that terrorizes her. A trusted therapist Dr. Timothy Reed (Brandon Auret) tells her that its a case of "Baby Blues", but could it be the dark history o

"Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman: The Rage of Atlantis"

Image
As many lego lovers out there know Lego has been stepping out of the building blocks and models and taking on the world of cinema with its versions of well known characters from superheroes to its own full-length motion pictures on the big screen, and with a new member to the Justice League about to make a splash onto the big screen this fall, Lego has introduced their version of Aquaman (with his classic look) to the Lego universe. While Aquaman (Dee Bradley Baker) may be the King of Atlantis and beloved by his people, he's finding it hard to prove he has what it takes in the eyes of the people on dry land, and after an embarrassing defeat when facing Lobo (Fred Tatasciore) it gives fuel for his half-brother Ocean Master (Trevor Devall) the ammo he needs along with a red lantern from his partner Atrocitus (Johnathan Adams) to enrage the people and creatures of Atlantis forcing Aquaman to give up his crown. Yet with the help of Superman (Nolan North), Batman (Troy Baker), Wo

"The Con is On"

We hear stories about major heist in history books and media of how criminals outsmart people and may (or may not) get away and we hope they're caught soon, yet when we see criminals portrayed in films such as the Ocean movies or "The Heist", we often find ourselves rooting for the criminals. Because our perspective is changed, we identify with the criminals more and less with the law, an amazing power cinema can have over an audience, and this film is no exception. Harry (Uma Thurman) short for Harriet and Peter (Tim Roth) Fox are the kind of people always taking the easy way out and enjoying the ride wherever they go, but now Harry is a hard-core gambler and Peter who you usually find looking for the next bottle of booze or drug to take find themselves in over their head. Having gambled and used their way through thousands of pounds belonging to a dangerous drug dealer and Harry's former lover Irina (Maggie Q), they're on the run seeking the next con t

When it comes to what you inherit from your family, many of us don't mind what we end up with. Whether it's the family blue eyes on your mother's side or a '68 Ford Mustang, they're usually not so bad, at least for most of us. Some people though inherit things that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. You might even say, their family is cursed. Lucy Bellerose (Sam Valentine) is a young twenty-something who just inherited her late distant Uncle's magnificent mansion estate and all that comes with it. From the time she arrives, she meets odd characters like The Vicar of Borley (Jude S. Walko) who manages the estate's affairs and a social lacking maid Mary (Beatrice Orro) and a strange salesman who arrives and seems to hang around despite the rule of uninvited guest named Abel Baddon (Dean Cain). Her only relief outside all of the strangeness is a local gravedigger named Jean-Pierre "JP" for short (Dylan Kellogg) who explains to Lucy that
