"Scooby Doo and the Gourmet Ghost" verses "Mission Possible"

Image
Welcome readers as we once again do a MoVTie Critic's "Movie Verses" where two films go head to head to get the best ranking of Green Mountain Stars. Today's films are going to the dogs with these dog themed films with a bit of sleuthing thrown into the mix. So before these films need to go for a walk, let's get started. Up first is America's favorite Great Dane Scooby Doo in his latest feature film "Scooby Doo and the Gourmet Ghost". In this film we find the gang in Rhode Island staying at an old inn newly renovated to be a culinary experience for their guest run by Fred Jones's (Frank Welker who also voices Scooby Doo) uncle famous chef Bobby Flay (as himself). As famous chefs from around the country are preparing for a televised competition that is to kick off the inn's reopening, they find themselves facing the wrath of the legendary "Red Ghost" that was said to have caused the disappearance of Fred and Bobby's famous

Technology has grown significantly in the last twenty years. Stuff like wristwatches that you can communicate to other people with and video calls use to be the stuff you would see in movies like Dick Tracy or on t.v. shows like The Jetsons or Star Trek, stuff that was only the work of fiction now a reality. Yet as technology grows to the point where it can run our lives, how much of our control should we give it, and how much is it controlling us? Russell Curran (Brendan Fletcher) is worried about his wife Lauren Curran (Christina Ricci) and her mental state. Ever since the tragic loss of their child, Lauren has been having terrible nightmares to where it is hard to function. Deciding to take a chance and move outside of the city into an apartment complex with a state of the art security system for a fresh start. At first all seems well, the people are friendly and the place seems like a dream come true until Lauren begins to notice strange things occurring, like a strange buzzi

"Hereditary"

Some things you're born with. Blue eyes on your mother's side, red hair on your father's, or in my case dark brown hair from both my parents. Yet not all we inherit is something to be desired. Some traits can be a down right curse. Annie (Toni Collette) is going through a difficult grieving process with the passing of her mother. Their relationship was estranged for a very long time until she reconnected around the time her daughter Charlie (Milly Sharpiro) was born. The two had a strong and somewhat strange connection. Now in the aftermath of her death, Annie begins to notice strange things going on that her husband Steve (Gabriel Byrne) thinks is all part of her grieving and her older son Peter (Alex Wolff) could care less about. It isn't until after Annie forces Peter to take Charlie to a party and Charlie ends up in an accident that things start to take a turn for the worse with Annie seeking answers and Peter feeling the guilt and being terrorized by things o

"I Kill Giants"

For many High School and growing up can be the most awkward and troubling time of your life. Many seek an escape, whether its with friends or a hobby or interest. Though for those unique few, it is into their own world. Barbara Thorson (Madison Wolfe) is a fourteen-year old loner who's tough reality has her seeking salvation from the ordinary by going into a world of her own where she is preparing for something extraordinary, to fight and kill giants. Believing that she is the only one who will be there to defend her world from impending giant attacks, she spends her days alone, even when she is at home with her obnoxious brother and her older sister Karen (Imogen Poots) who is doing her best to take care of things at home. School is no easier with bullies like Taylor (Rory Jackson) who targets Barbara along with her cronies. Barbara finds her only connection with new girl Sophia (Sydney Wade) and school counselor Mrs. Mollé (Zoe Saldana) who Barbara resist talking to but sec

"The Little Vampire" (2017)

Image
Many of us remember the 2000 live-action version about a boy who becomes friends with a vampire and helps to save his family from a vampire hunter. It was considered a success, especially with young actor Johnathan Lipnicki, a famous child actor at the time in one of the leading roles. Now while he's all grown up (and buff and good looking despite nasty rumors of him getting ugly once hitting puberty) the story itself still excites us and it should come as no surprise that someone else wanted to do a retelling using computer animation and making it 3D for a new generation. In this version, we find Rudolph Sackville-Bagg (Rasmus Hardiker) gathering to celebrate his 13th birthday for the 300th time at their family crypt with relatives flying in from all over Europe. As the party is about to get underway, Rudolph and his brother Gregory (also played by Ramus Hardiker) attract the unwanted attention of vampire hunter Rookery (Jim Carter who also played Rookery in the live-action

With how quick media is today, we can hear what happens anywhere in the world in a matter of hours or even minutes. Crime television has become extremely popular in recent decades with cases like O.J. Simpson, Casey Anthony or even Amanda Knox taking over the news and social media. Usually with cases we only hear one side of the story and never straight from those involved, these four men decided it was time to tell theirs. In the early 2000's in Kentucky, art student Spencer Reinhard (played by Barry Keoghan and told by the real Spencer Reinhard) is shown in a private collection a rare book of illustrated birds believed to be worth 12 million and suggest the idea to his friend Warren Lipka (played by Evan Peters and told by the real Warren Lipka) of stealing the book along with other rare books in the locked up collection. Told in their own words as it is portrayed out, they show how a hypothetical idea starts to become preparation for a heist. Entrusting two other friends

"Demons" vs. "The Hollow Child"

Image
Welcome to another one of MoVTie Critic's "Movie Verses" where two movies go head to head for the highest ranking on the Green Mountain Stars scale. Today, we have two films that dive into the dark supernatural world of demonic possession. "Demons" and "The Hollow Child". Up first we have "Demons", a film that takes many twist and turns to tell its story. Former priest turned fiction writer Colin Hampstead (Miles Doleac who also wrote and directed this) and his wife Kayleigh (Lindsey Anne Williams) have made a good life for themselves and are hosting Colin's friend Eddie (Steven Brand) and his fiancé Lara (Kristina Emerson) at their home before their wedding. Little do they know that the tragedy of losing her sister Jewel (Jessica Harthcock) while trying to exorcise her would bring an evening of terror as Jewel's spirit starts reaching out to Kayleigh. Having to relive the events of that night in her mind and remembering the dar

"Fogg"

Since the horrors of H.H. Holmes, America's first recorded serial killer who killed over an estimated 100 people (the official count is still uncertain to this day) before being caught and hung, we've had a fascination of the mind of someone with psychological and sociopathic behavior in our effort to understand what makes their minds so different than ours. While it is believed there is no cure for sociopathic behavior, we strive to understand their minds in the hopes a cure can be reached, but at price might it come? Matthew Fogg (Ryan Wortherspoon) looks like a handsome, charismatic business man on the surface, but as he narrates his story, you find that beneath the surface is an emotionless and calculating mind that spends most of his time trying to come off acting like everyone else, while hiding his dark secrets. One night, he meets a temp worker Sarah O'Shea (Sarah Shoemaker) for drinks and the evening leads back to her place where she talks about her family i

Our faith is one of those things in our life that are constantly being tested. Seeing what we are made of and how strong we can be in times of crisis. Yet there are times where we find ourselves pushed to our limit where our faith no longer seems to apply and we question everything. Usually we find our way back, but others take a more drastic approach. Reverend Ernest Toller (Ethan Hawke) is a loyal man to his faith keeping up with the small attendance at his upstate New York church that is usually more for tourism because of its ties the Underground Railroad which he also gives tours for. While the church is approaching its 250th anniversary, one of the young loyal attendees Mary (Amanda Seyfried) ask Rev. Toller to talk with her husband Michael (Phillip Ettinger) who wants Mary to abort her pregnancy because he doesn't want to bring a child into a world where there is no hope. Rev. Toller having dealt with his own loss years ago tries to council Michael, but when he calls

Seventeen years ago today, this country endured one of the greatest tragedies they have ever faced. Since then, we have shown how easily we can come together, yet also just as easily become divided by violence, hatred and suspicion. During that time, a very special man came out of retirement after years of educating and entertaining children to deliver a message of reassurance to those of us too young to understand what was going on. We've known this man from when we were children and when our parents were children, but only now to we get to hear his story from those who knew him best. Fred Rogers who became the iconic Mister Rogers that would change the face of educational television and how we communicate with our children as we know it started his show in 1968 with nothing more than a camera and a low-budget set with an idea of making a show to entertain children and teach life lessons in the process. Facing struggles such as talking about the Vietnam War, convincing politi

"The Bad Nun" aka "The Watcher"

Image
With the great anticipation of the next chapter in The Conjuring universe set to darken theaters today, many filmmakers are jumping on the bandwagon with their own versions of murderous and terrifying nuns. This film while done with simple filming of a few sets is said to deliver some frights that will make those Catholic school students running for the door when they see a sister with a ruler. Aesha Wadia (Becca Hirani) is your young twenty-something student who goes to school and likes to party with her friends like Lea (Lucy Chappell). At her mother's insistence to get away from it all and get her head on straight, Aesha travels to a remote bed and breakfast out in the country with only a local church being the closest place for miles. As nighttime comes, Aesha is visited by a nun that keeps insisting that Aesha let her inside. Uncomfortable with the idea since the place belongs to local Dan (Thomas Mailand), she keeps the door locked hoping to get her to leave. Yet this nu

Space travel and exploration has been a fascination of ours since we could only look at the stars with a telescope. Now man has discovered planets and seen across the galaxy and yet we have only scratched the surface. The further we explore, the more mysteries we uncover, but what will it mean for our world? After an exploration to Mars ends in tragedy with the deadly crash that killed her father, Mackenzie "Mack" Wilson (Katee Sackoff) now works from the ground with an artificial intelligent machine put in charge by her sister Lena (Julie Cox) in order to study Mars and have no human casualties. A.R.T.I. (voiced by Steven Cree) as it is called is not something that Mack sees as highly capable as a human who can adjust to situations rather than rely on percentage of probability, but despite her feelings is willing to tolerate A.R.T.I. in order to explore the unknown. The exploration takes a turn for the interesting when a strange cube is discovered on Mars found to be m

Hello again movie lovers. I apologize for the lack of post for those few who haven't stopped glancing at my post. With the end of summer and my birthday which I celebrated yesterday (no I'm not saying how old I am) its been hard to find time to sit down and write. Yet I've managed to view lots of movies that I'm excited to tell you about. This one in particular really caught my eye recently and is one for you action fans that you might want to look into. Camino (Booboo Stewart) was a rising soccer star until being in the wrong car at the wrong time when his friend robbed a convenient store got him sent to a second chance boot camp for troubled youths. It is only made more complicated with the constant altercations from fellow cadets called Turd (Tyler Steelman) and Puke (Eric Steelman) who get him into more trouble despite having support from friends like Cass (Giselle Bonilla). When the cadets are taken out to the wilderness for a field exercise, things for the
