"Hereditary"

Some things you're born with. Blue eyes on your mother's side, red hair on your father's, or in my case dark brown hair from both my parents. Yet not all we inherit is something to be desired. Some traits can be a down right curse.

Annie (Toni Collette) is going through a difficult grieving process with the passing of her mother. Their relationship was estranged for a very long time until she reconnected around the time her daughter Charlie (Milly Sharpiro) was born. The two had a strong and somewhat strange connection. Now in the aftermath of her death, Annie begins to notice strange things going on that her husband Steve (Gabriel Byrne) thinks is all part of her grieving and her older son Peter (Alex Wolff) could care less about. It isn't until after Annie forces Peter to take Charlie to a party and Charlie ends up in an accident that things start to take a turn for the worse with Annie seeking answers and Peter feeling the guilt and being terrorized by things out of his nightmares that it becomes clear that something sinister has taken ahold of this family, and it won't let go until it gets what it desires.

Disturbing and freaky as hell. This psychological thriller seems to try to drive you to the madness that the characters are experiencing while throwing curve balls in its story plot that you won't see coming until its too late. The details into the grisly nature of the darkest scenes were done with such shock that it can be hard for many to sit through without gasping or cringing. No doubt, this terror-ific film gets five Green Mountain Stars (G.M.Stars) for being one of the most psychotic and horror-filled films I've seen in a while.
