"American Animals"

With how quick media is today, we can hear what happens anywhere in the world in a matter of hours or even minutes. Crime television has become extremely popular in recent decades with cases like O.J. Simpson, Casey Anthony or even Amanda Knox taking over the news and social media. Usually with cases we only hear one side of the story and never straight from those involved, these four men decided it was time to tell theirs.

In the early 2000's in Kentucky, art student Spencer Reinhard (played by Barry Keoghan and told by the real Spencer Reinhard) is shown in a private collection a rare book of illustrated birds believed to be worth 12 million and suggest the idea to his friend Warren Lipka (played by Evan Peters and told by the real Warren Lipka) of stealing the book along with other rare books in the locked up collection. Told in their own words as it is portrayed out, they show how a hypothetical idea starts to become preparation for a heist.
Entrusting two other friends Chas Allen and Eric Borsuk (played by Blake Jenner and Jared Abrahamson and told by the real Chas Allen and Eric Borsuk) they try to plan a heist down to the last idea in a Ocean's 11 style, but like many robberies in real life it all starts to go wrong. As talk becomes action, the four start to feel they're getting in over their heads, but feel there is no turning back go through with it as we watch the events play out post robbery leading up to their capture and what follows from there.

Real crime in an original documentary. Hearing how it all came to be from those who did it first hand gives insight into how an idea and those willing to try it can change one's life so drastically. Delivering a mixture of emotions as you watch their story play out will give you new appreciation for the term "Crime Never Pays". In the end, this film earned five Green Mountain Stars for bringing a real-life crime to life and how it changed them, hopefully for the better.
