Welcome readers as we once again do a MoVTie Critic's "Movie Verses" where two films go head to head to get the best ranking of Green Mountain Stars. Today's films are going to the dogs with these dog themed films with a bit of sleuthing thrown into the mix. So before these films need to go for a walk, let's get started. Up first is America's favorite Great Dane Scooby Doo in his latest feature film "Scooby Doo and the Gourmet Ghost". In this film we find the gang in Rhode Island staying at an old inn newly renovated to be a culinary experience for their guest run by Fred Jones's (Frank Welker who also voices Scooby Doo) uncle famous chef Bobby Flay (as himself). As famous chefs from around the country are preparing for a televised competition that is to kick off the inn's reopening, they find themselves facing the wrath of the legendary "Red Ghost" that was said to have caused the disappearance of Fred and Bobby's famous ...

Technology has grown significantly in the last twenty years. Stuff like wristwatches that you can communicate to other people with and video calls use to be the stuff you would see in movies like Dick Tracy or on t.v. shows like The Jetsons or Star Trek, stuff that was only the work of fiction now a reality. Yet as technology grows to the point where it can run our lives, how much of our control should we give it, and how much is it controlling us? Russell Curran (Brendan Fletcher) is worried about his wife Lauren Curran (Christina Ricci) and her mental state. Ever since the tragic loss of their child, Lauren has been having terrible nightmares to where it is hard to function. Deciding to take a chance and move outside of the city into an apartment complex with a state of the art security system for a fresh start. At first all seems well, the people are friendly and the place seems like a dream come true until Lauren begins to notice strange things occurring, like a strange buzzi...

"Hereditary"

Some things you're born with. Blue eyes on your mother's side, red hair on your father's, or in my case dark brown hair from both my parents. Yet not all we inherit is something to be desired. Some traits can be a down right curse. Annie (Toni Collette) is going through a difficult grieving process with the passing of her mother. Their relationship was estranged for a very long time until she reconnected around the time her daughter Charlie (Milly Sharpiro) was born. The two had a strong and somewhat strange connection. Now in the aftermath of her death, Annie begins to notice strange things going on that her husband Steve (Gabriel Byrne) thinks is all part of her grieving and her older son Peter (Alex Wolff) could care less about. It isn't until after Annie forces Peter to take Charlie to a party and Charlie ends up in an accident that things start to take a turn for the worse with Annie seeking answers and Peter feeling the guilt and being terrorized by things o...

"The Little Vampire" (2017)

Image
Many of us remember the 2000 live-action version about a boy who becomes friends with a vampire and helps to save his family from a vampire hunter. It was considered a success, especially with young actor Johnathan Lipnicki, a famous child actor at the time in one of the leading roles. Now while he's all grown up (and buff and good looking despite nasty rumors of him getting ugly once hitting puberty) the story itself still excites us and it should come as no surprise that someone else wanted to do a retelling using computer animation and making it 3D for a new generation. In this version, we find Rudolph Sackville-Bagg (Rasmus Hardiker) gathering to celebrate his 13th birthday for the 300th time at their family crypt with relatives flying in from all over Europe. As the party is about to get underway, Rudolph and his brother Gregory (also played by Ramus Hardiker) attract the unwanted attention of vampire hunter Rookery (Jim Carter who also played Rookery in the live-action ...

"American Animals"

With how quick media is today, we can hear what happens anywhere in the world in a matter of hours or even minutes. Crime television has become extremely popular in recent decades with cases like O.J. Simpson, Casey Anthony or even Amanda Knox taking over the news and social media. Usually with cases we only hear one side of the story and never straight from those involved, these four men decided it was time to tell theirs. In the early 2000's in Kentucky, art student Spencer Reinhard (played by Barry Keoghan and told by the real Spencer Reinhard) is shown in a private collection a rare book of illustrated birds believed to be worth 12 million and suggest the idea to his friend Warren Lipka (played by Evan Peters and told by the real Warren Lipka) of stealing the book along with other rare books in the locked up collection. Told in their own words as it is portrayed out, they show how a hypothetical idea starts to become preparation for a heist. Entrusting two other friends ...
