"Help, I Shrunk My Friends"

The summer has brought much this year including some new films as well as teasers for upcoming films, but for this post since it has been a while, I decided to take a step back at one of the reasons I started this blog and one of those things was to feature movies you may have missed. This film you most likely didn't see, unless you watch films from Germany. This film is actually a third installment (Help, I Shrunk My Teacher and Help, I Shrunk My Parents) based off the works of Sabine Ludwig and directed by Granz Henman. A children's comedic piece filled with magic, friendship and emotional growth.

Felix Frontman (in German it's Felix Vorndran played by Oskar Keymer) in this English Dubbed version of the film, he is now fifteen and has come a long way since his first day at school four years earlier at Otto Leonhard's (Otto Waalkes) school. Yet things still things are changing for Felix, one in which his friend Ella (Lina Huesker) is wanting more than a friendship, but feelings become complicated when he takes a liking to the new girl Melanie (Lorna zu Solms) who is making his friends suspicious. All of which is happening durning Otto Leonhard's 140th Birthday with a trip planned to show off his possessions. In order to protect his belongings, Otto's spirit instructs Felix on how to do his shrinking spell so that he might protect it from thieves, and thieves are in no short supply with the ghost of the former principal Hulda Stingbeard (in German its Hulda Stetchbarth played by Andrea Sawatzki) who is in search of Otto's notebook in the hopes of taking over his power and his school to prolong her physical form with the help of two minion students Michi and Lukas (Cosmina Henman and Tobias Schafer).

As their trip goes on with items turning up missing, suspicion from Ella and friends Chris, Robert and Mario (Jonny Hoff, Eloi Christ and Georg Sulzer) grow, but with Felix not wanting to believe the worst, he makes the choice to use the spell and shrink his friends resulting in unforeseen events unfolding which will force Felix rise up and take action to his friends, the school and the magic within.

A surprisingly delightful film that has a magic charm for the whole family. While it may not have wands and magic flying everywhere like such other magic-themed films, its simple fantasy with a touch of realism make is possible to believe that such a place might exist. Together with its cast many who have been in the previous films to this series with an adventurous plot with lessons of trust and emotional growth make it a joyride worth taking and worth the final grading of three and a half G.M.Stars.
