"Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase"

Since 1930, the name Nancy Drew has graced the bookshelves of many young girls and women who were captivated by this strong female sleuth. Since then she's gone through some transformations and has had actors play her on screens big and small including Emma Roberts. Now Nancy has returned for a whole new generation and is out to solve a mystery that may be of the supernatural sorts.

Nancy Drew (Sofia Lillis, Beverly Marsh from remake of Stephen King's "IT") is feeling like the new girl in River Heights since her father Carson Drew (Sam Trammell) decided to make the town they visit in the summer into their permanent town. Luckily she has more room to skateboard and a couple of good friends George Fayne (Zoe Renee) and Bess Marvin (Mackenzie Graham). Yet after pulling a little justice prank on the popular quarterback Derek Barnes (Evan Castelloe) who cyber-humiliated Bess, Nancy lands in hot water with the local authorities, one of them being her dad and must complete community service.
Just when Nancy thinks this town couldn't bring any excitement, she happens to overhear local owner Flora (Linda Lavin) who's home is the local famous Twin Elms Mansion claiming that it is being haunted with strange noises, exploding lights and a strange creature that appears and disappears. Nancy is quick to jump on the case despite her niece and Derek's girlfriend Helen Corning (Laura Wiggins) who is not too fond of Nancy for what she did being involved.
Despite getting a fright when all of Flora's claims turn out to be occurring, Nancy is not one to let the unknown go unexplained and begins to find clues that points to someone not of the supernatural. Yet the biggest questions are who and why? Is it Derek? Is it someone who wants the new railroad to come through town? Or could it even be someone close to Nancy? It will be up to the teenage sleuth and her resourceful friends old and new to put the pieces together before whoever is involved makes them a ghost story.

Classic and delightful. Sofia Lillis has captured Nancy Drew for a new age of girls showing they don't have to play by the social rules and can be into skateboarding, science and puzzle-solving. A refreshing take on a classic character that is sure to be a positive role model for the next generation of female mystery lovers. With winding turns making up the plots and a cast of fresh faces, this is one you'll want for your next family movie night and one that will walk away with four and a half G.M.Stars, as to where the remaining half went, well that's a mystery that might need a sequel to track it down.
