"Don't Tell A Soul"

In the midst of hard times and acts of violence in the world, one wonders how anyone can trust one another. In a time where those we are close to we question our trust and seek it out connection in others that we offer our trust. This film displays them both when face with the choice of doing what's right and doing what's right by you.

Fourteen year old Joey (Jack Dylan Grazer featured in "Shazam") and his older brother Matt (Fionn Whitehead) are examples of how life has hit them hard. Their father is dead and their mother Carol (Mena Suvari) has cancer leaving them lacking money and authority. When Matt convinces Joey to break in to a house for some easy cash, they think it will be in and out and nobody gets hurt until they're caught leaving the scene by a security guard who chases them into the woods and falls into an abandon well giving the brothers a chance to escape.

Ridden with guilt and confusion, Joey investigates the well to find the guard Hamby (Rainn Wilson) alive, but injured trying to convince Joey to get some help. With the fear of being caught Joey is reluctant but still assist Hamby as the two develop a bond, yet Matt's growing threats make the situation next to impossible to know the next step. As true colors are revealed and dark secrets come to light, Joey must find come to decide whether loyalty lies with family or unlikely friends.

Only two words can come to mind to describe the character's relationships in this film, twisted bonds. The examples of the relationships between Matt and Joey and Joey and Hamby as they develop show how no human is fully good, nor fully evil that they are intertwined and frayed yet together make a strong bond that is difficult to sever. One of the most intense performances comes from Wilson who is known more for his comedic chops taking a stab at a dramatic role and delivering a character you have mixed feelings for as he comes across both sympathetic and a potential threat. A hard mixture to concoct in any one character yet somehow he found the right blend giving this film well deserved four G.M.Stars that is worth telling every soul about.
