"Happy Halloween Scooby Doo"
Happy October to all you movie lovers. Its been a busy month with getting costumes planned, a seasonal job about to start and checking out new featured movies like this one that has become a favorite with my youngest. Yet let's see if Mystery Inc. can find the clues that will lead them to a good rating on this blog.
Linked up with the last featured films we find the gang back in Crystal Cove on Halloween in the middle of a case during the Halloween parade with the parade marshal being none other than Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (Cassandra Peterson). After an all out fright with explosions, flying candy and good teamwork on the part of the gang members Fred, Velma and Daphne (Frank Welker, Kate Micucci and Grey Griffin) with Shaggy and Scooby's (Matthew Lillard and Frank Welker) "contribution" they apprehend the villain who turns out to be The Scarecrow a.k.a. Dr. Johnathan Crane (Dwight Schultz) (yes, a Batman villain).
With the case wrapped up, the gang goes about their business believing the only monsters left in town are the ones going trick or treating, until Scooby and Shaggy in their traditional comical luck stumble across a pumpkin patch that has been contaminated with what appears to be toxic waste and some of the Scarecrow's fear gas from a fallen drone causing the pumpkins to spring to life as jack o'lanterns with a mean bite and a desire to pursue the people in Crystal Cove on a wild Halloween night ride down the highway. With the help of Bill Nye (as himself) and a high tech ride, the gang try to solve this seemingly unreal case at high speed and prove these man-eating pumpkins are really someone hiding behind a mask before their luck, and the road runs out.
Lately I have been a little disappointed in some the recent installments. They had their charm, but lacked some of the classic sleuthing we've come to know and love from the gang as they've seem to try and reinvent their story-telling a little, yet this latest installment has been a real Halloween treat. It delivered the suspense I hadn't seen in awhile and had the characters and even the audience questioning if the monster is real this time. While it delivers a few jokes that are a little more corny than usual, it is a delightful film for the family this Halloween season and one that will unmask four and a half G.M.Stars.
