"DCU Superman: Red Son"

Hello movie lovers. Let me start off by saying that I hope you all are doing well out there and I apologize for my lack of reviews. I've had to take on the role of educator on top of my mom role for my two boys which has made it hard to find time to sit down and write anything these days. However, I've been able to catch up on some movie watching as I'm sure many of you have and have some great films to tell you about, so I'm hoping to hit with a few this weekend. So, let me hit the ground running faster than a speeding bullet with a Superman movie like you've never seen him.

In this take on the Man of Steel, we find him in an alternate reality where his ship sent from Krypton has landed in the heart of Russia and becomes the symbol of the Soviet Union. Yet when Superman (Jason Isaacs) is informed of some classified information by American news reporter Lois Lane (Amy Acker) with the help of her well connected husband Lex Luthor (Diedrich Bader) he finds the dark corruption behind the face of ideals in the government and takes control in an effort to create the ideal society of peace.
As we watch the years go by with Superman at the country's helm conflicting with Lex Luthor, the alliance with Wonder Woman (Vanessa Marshall) and facing anarchy from rebellious sources including that of The Batman (Roger Craig Smith) we see Superman's ideals go from an idealistic hope to being a well meaning, but misguided dictator all leading up to a conflict that will decide the fate of two countries and humanity as we know it.

A brilliant rewrite of a classic. This takes the man we know and puts him the perspective of another's point of view. Seeing the similarities as well as the differences from the influences he's presented gives a whole new perspective as to who we might become in different situations. More importantly we see the conflict within the main character as he tries to keep control of the power he has while not losing his morals in the process. With that and the classic animation inspired by the time it would have taken place, it without a doubt that this new take on America's boy scout turned Red Son will get five G.M.Stars for its unique portrayal.
