"Grand-Daddy Day Care"

They say with age comes wisdom, yet why hasn't anyone over sixty-five figured out how to spend their golden years not looking at getting shipped off to a retirement home or having to live with your adult children and their children? Let's face it, we can all learn something from our elders even when we think we know better and sometimes it takes being forced together in less than desirable circumstances to bring out the best in everyone.

Frank Collins (Reno Wilson) is a writer struggling to break his dry spell of not coming out with a continuing novel for his spy series and finds the pressure of supporting a family no better especially when his wife Emma (Roxanne Ortega) insist that her father Eduardo Hernandez (Danny Trejo) a convict turned lawyer who is now retired and showing early signs of his mind slipping away must move in with them and bunk with their son Jordan (Anthony Gonzalez). Faced with the financial burden of now supporting his household of four and finding Eduardo something to do with his time so he can get some writing done, Frank is presented the idea of a senior day care.
While Frank finds running a day care for adults isn't ideal for his creative process, he comes to find himself finding a purpose bonding with these individuals and coming to see eye to eye with Eduardo while developing a mutual appreciation for one another, but when the threat of Grand-daddy day care being shut down becomes a factor, these seniors must band together to show that while they may be old, they still have a few tricks up their sleeve.

When I sat down to view this film, I thought it would be another disaster sequel like Daddy Day Camp (no offense to Cuba Gooding Jr. who is a talented actor). Yet I was surprised to find well-developed characters, mostly in that of Frank and Eduardo and the relationship that develops between them along with just the right amount of hijinks that didn't make the story ridiculous. Needless to say this was not a disappointment and one I would not mind adding to my home collection and one I feel deserves three and a half G.M.Stars. I would only ask that they don't make a sequel to this because no one should ruin a good thing.
