"Benchwarmers 2: Breaking Balls"

Once again someone has decided that we don't have enough sequels going straight to DVD out in the world and decided to try their luck with making a sequel to Rob Schneider's comical underdog film and come back swinging with "Benchwarmers 2: Breaking Balls"

Ben McGrath (Chris Klein) is on top of his game. Playing in the big leagues and a beautiful wife carrying their first child and about to take his team to the championship. That's when it all goes south, literally. One pitch that hits him square in the balls takes him down along with his career.
Now a decade later, he's divorced, mowing lawns for a jerk of a boss and has not played baseball since. The only two good things in his life are his son Jack (Liam Hughes) and that he's just earned a law degree, but this will not be a hit out of the park like he hopes.
After getting hired at a prestigious law firm called Stenhouse, he finds out that his boss Mr. Stenhouse (Lochlyn Munro) only hired him to be on his company softball team and after a freak-out before he can even swing, he's fired. Yet just by chance, he meets Mel Carmichael (Jon Lovitz) as he's drowning his sorrows in a bar with his own offer. He works for his less than impressive law firm with a group of quirky and unusual characters in exchange for coaching their down on their luck softball team in the hopes of making them champions.
With little to no other options Ben accepts and takes on the task of making these sorry underdogs into softball players. All the while taking on a case that will threaten the existence of a small town with Stenhouse as the opposing lawyer to beat in the courtroom and on the field.

Comical, yet not one that hits it out of the park. While the story has an interesting plot with colorful characters that find a way to shine on the field and a little office romance between Klien's character and the love interest known as Annie played by Chelsey Reist, it doesn't deliver the same comical punch that the original did, but having a nod to the original movie along with Jon Lovitz return to reprise his character and a few comical moments was delightful. For this, I feel this sequel deserves at least three G.M.Stars to take back to the dugout with. So while it's no homerun of a sequel, it is worth the watch.
