"Down A Dark Hall"

As we approach the holidays where students are looking forward to getting away from school and all their classes and lessons, some may be desperate to get away more than others. Some may even say school can be hell, or somewhere close to it.

After the loss of her father when she was young, Kit (Anna Sophia Robb) has let her life spiral out of control both at home with her mother Ginny Gordy-Dabrowski (Kirsty Mitchell) and her supportive, but frustrated stepfather Dave Dabrowski (Jim Sturgeon), it gets to the point where they're desperate enough to take an offer to an all-girls school call the Blackwood Boarding School that promises to take young troubled girls and turn them into successful women. When Kit first arrives and meets the headmistress Madame Duret (Uma Thruman) it doesn't take her long to suspect there is more going on in this eerie mansion than what you can see. It only gets stranger as the other girls who arrive not long after start to become dedicated to the point of obsession their assigned subjects. Ashley (Taylor Russell) churns out beautiful poetry, Izzy (Isabelle Fuhrman) excels at mathematical equations despite barely passing algebra in the past and Kit starts to become a talented pianist to the point of composing with the greats. Yet as the girl's newfound gifts grow, their grasp on sanity and reality starts to slip to where they seem to be no longer in control. As Kit begins to search for answers, she will soon discover the greatness in these walls comes with a price, one that they may end up paying with their lives.

Suspenseful and darkly chilling. This mysterious psychological thriller takes you on a ride of deception and obsession. Anna Sophia Robb shows that she has gone from playing the good girl like in many of her past roles and developed into a serious actor with her portrayal as the troubled teen who questions authority yet shows she has a good heart. The set itself sets the stage with its lighting creating a looming darkness that grows over all within to the point where it just might swallow you up. Even with five G.M.Stars to shine over this film, its darkness will take you in as your heart begins to race down the halls with the fear of what might be lurking around the corner.
