"The Watcher in the Woods"

Happy October 1st everybody! We are officially in the month where its okay to pick out costumes, buy scary decorations and plan your scary movie marathon night. To kick off the month, I'm reviewing a frightful delight from the Lifetime channel with famous actor known for her terrifying roles as an evil witch and at one point Morticia Addams, Anjelica Huston

Jan Carstairs (Tallulah Evans) is less than thrilled to be moving to the Welsh countryside with her parents Kate and Paul Carstairs (Melanie Walters and Rufus Wright) and little sister Ellie (Dixie Edgerickx, who ironically was born on Halloween) into a strange old house out in the middle of nowhere with the less than warm welcoming owner Mrs. Aylwood (Anjelica Huston).

At first things seem strange, but normal until Jan starts to notice Ellie having strange dreams and moments where she talks in her sleep and blacks out finding herself elsewhere with no recollection and that the locals are afraid to travel through the woods just off from her new home's property. It isn't until she meets Mark Fleming (Nicholas Galitzine) that she learns of the mysterious disappearance of Mrs. Aylwood's daughter Karen (Rebecca Acock, credited as Rebecca Aycock) thirty years earlier during the same fall festival that is days away and that a being known as "The Watcher" who haunts the woods is blamed for causing it. When Jan has no success convincing her parents that the strange happenings are not a result of her imagination and trying to scare her sister, she takes it upon herself to dig into the mystery fearing that the story may be more than legend and that Ellie may be in danger of being taken by The Watcher.

A haunting thriller. This dark suspenseful tale takes you on a race against time in a fight to protect those we love. The plot brings the urban legend-like tale to life while delivering a spark of belief that spirits exist. Anjelica Huston delivers a gripping performance as the grieving mother and one of Jan's only allies who's torn between saving her daughter and opening up her pain to the equally talented Tallulah Evans who plays off Anjelica with a convincing performance and earning four and a half G.M.Stars. So if you're looking to kick off this haunting month, this is one film to add to your watch list and I hope you'll keep a look out for more frightening film reviews I will be delivering this month.

⭐⭐⭐⭐½
