"Out of the Shadows"

We've all heard the stories of families moving into a new home. They fix it up in the hopes of building their lives and watching their family grow up there. It's an ideal dream every family wants, then they find that their dream home carries its skeletons when things start to move and terrible nightmares rule their nights. Most of those stories work out in the end, most of them.

Katrina Hughes (Kendal Rae) is expecting and she and her husband Detective Eric Hughes (Blake Northfield) are able to get the loan to buy a fixer upper home in the country to make it their dream home for their growing family. Yet just as they've moved their things in, Katrina starts being haunted by frightening images of a nun telling her to give her the baby. Meanwhile, Eric is dealing with his own darkness at work after arresting Charles Winter (Jake Ryan) for murdering his two children and pregnant wife and causing the disappearance of the baby. He claims that it was the shadows that took them and threatens that his baby is next. While Katrina begins to believe that her visions are not the work of insanity, she seeks out answers from the church from Father Joe Phillips (Helmut Bakaitis), but reluctant to help her without more evidence, she turns to a renegade demonologist Linda Dee (Lisa Chappell) to rid her of her hauntings. As the Hughes's dig deeper into the past of the property, they find a disturbing history of murder and demonic sacrifice that has now awakened and will stop at nothing to obtain its next prize.

While the concept is terrifying, the portrayal was rather weak and mundane. Most people would expect a demonic entity to not appear so human and the lack of church assistance in such a situation is enough to make you question your own faith that someone is there to help you in times of need. For the most part it was nothing but cheap scares a disturbing, yet predictable plot. The acting was good, but average and the special effects were less than imaginative. If you're looking for cheesy films to scare that friend who can't take horror movies, this would be the film, but for die-hard fans that are looking for something decent, don't waste your time. While it barely registered I gave it one and a half G.M.Stars, the extra half being in the spirit of Halloween, but don't fret, there will be more scary movies to come that you may have just been looking for.
