"Thoroughbreds"

In a world where wealth comes with privilege, we often believe the grass is greener on their side and that life must be perfect. Yet we often forget wealth cannot buy happiness but it does breed resentment and disdain. That's when privilege turns to poison.

Amanda (Olivia Cooke) and Lily (Anya Taylor-Joy) are two privileged teens who haven't seen each other in years and are reunited when Amanda's mother pays Lily to tutor Amanda for the SAT's. Bonding in an unlikely friendship, Lily learns that Amanda doesn't have emotions and has gone through life imitating human behavior in order to fit in and Amanda learns Lily suppresses her emotions to keep a perfect outward persona but secretly hates her emotionally abusive stepfather Mark (Paul Sparks).
A suggested idea of killing her stepfather comes up one night and soon turns from hypothetical to plotting as they go through their options including trying to recruit small-time drug dealer Tim (Anton Yelchin) to carry out the plan. As the situation becomes more real, it test the two girls and how they take away parts of each other changing them not necessarily for the better.

A dark humor with some psychological suspense. This play-styled film portrays how someone of wealth and privilege can become disconnected yet have raw emotion in a world where money doesn't always give you choice and pushes those closest to you to do the unthinkable. Tense and unnerving at times, this got a five out of five on the G.M.Stars scale with me. A suburban American Psycho for the millennial generation that make your blood run cold by the climax.
