"Escape Room"

Not to be confused with the other 2017 movie of the same name that caAnme out. This one features legendary "Scream" cast member Skeet Ulrich who now plays F.P. Jones, Jughead's Father on the dramatic television series, "Riverdale". Also featured is Sean Young well known for her role as Lt. Lois Einhorn from "Ace Ventura". In this movie, Skeet Ulrich is about to get a hard lesson on what happens when you do not heed the warnings of things that should not be messed with and that there are dangers hidden in our world waiting to be released.

Brice (Skeet Ulrich) is the owner and operator of a once popular horror-themed escape room club called "Deranged" now facing hard times. In an effort to drum up business, he visits a nearby antique shop run by Ramona (Sean Young). When he eyes an old wooden box designed to look like the face of a skull, Brice is immediately taken with it, but Ramona warns that it is not for sale because of the demon that is within it and can only be released if the box is opened. Not heeding her warning, he takes the box when she leaves the room and places it inside on of his escape rooms as a prop.
Meanwhile, two friends Jeff and Ben (Randy Wayne and Matt McVay) and their girlfriends Jess and Angie decide to take in "Deranged" so that Ben can write a review for his blog which puts the pressure on for Brice and his assistant Molly (Haley Goldstein) that all goes well.
Put into a room that is locked, soundproof and has no connection to cell service or Wi-Fi, they begin to play the game where they must look around for the clues, including an actor posing a psychotic killer dubbed "Stitchface" (Taylor Piedmonte) on a chain that extends every five minutes. At first all is well, until the box is opened during the search for clues and the silent actor becomes a possessed silent killer who takes out the surveillance camera leaving Brice and Molly in the dark about what's happening and conflicted whether or not to pull the plug on the game. With the game turned into a real life and death situation and no one on the outside aware of the danger, the friends have less than an hour before the killer is within reach and the only way out is to finish the game, or die trying.

A nail biting suspense thriller. This movie leaves out the gruesome gore that has been overused in horror films in exchange for good old fashion mystery of the unknown and on the edge of your seat suspense. While it may not appeal to those who don't like to be left in the dark on all the details, it gives those who love coming up with their own theories like those who ponder on who came through the door, "The Lady or The Tiger", it is ideal for those who come up with their own backstory. A four and a half star enigma thriller that I hope will have more to reveal in a future sequel.
