"Darrow and Darrow: In The Key Of Murder"

Hallmark Mysteries channel this summer is coming out with several new films from many of the major players like Kellie Martin and Lori Loughlin who are already well established with many films and will be adding at least three new ones in June and August. Until then, we are getting the latest from one of the newest characters in the second Darrow and Darrow film.

Claire Darrow (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) the single mom attorney of the Darrow and Darrow law firm is one who looks out for the little person whether its taking Pro-Bono cases like a permit dispute over a lemonade stand or letting her mother Joanna Darrow (Wendie Malick) live with her and her daughter Lou (Lilah Fitzgerald) and work with the practice after years of absence from the law firm.
Though when D.A. and love interest Miles Strasberg (Tom Cavanagh) comes to Claire when his aspiring singer half-sister Phoebe (Mackenzie Porter) is arrested for the murder of her abusive producer Terry, Claire must rely on her gut instinct when all of the evidence is pointing to Phoebe. It soon becomes clear that many had reasons to want Terry out of the way such as rival record producer Evan (David Paetkeau) who was once married to Terry's wife and who Phoebe wanted to produce the track instead. As all the arrows keep pointing to Phoebe, Claire and Miles must look past the obvious to find the real clues to the killer's identity before Phoebe sings her swan song from behind bars.

While this piece was a well told and had its twist and turns of suspense, I found myself solving almost 100% of the case by halfway through. Whether that says more about the writer's ability or my skills of deductive reasoning doesn't seem to be the case here. It was enjoyable, but a little predictable. Without more shock value, I feel it only deserves four G.M.Stars for a descent mystery piece and a likeable cast of characters. I only hope that while this was better than their last, that they up their game of intrigue in the next chapter.
