"12 Strong" and a nation stronger

September 11, 2001 changed the way we looked at the world and shook our security in how safe we were. Yet like so many times before, this nation was going to hold its ground and make those responsible answer for their crimes. We've heard so many stories of went down here as we picked up the pieces of our nation, but one story of how we struck back has not been told, until recently.

Captain Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth) of the U.S. Army who has been fortunate enough not to see any real combat in his military career and is about to take on an office job to have security and be the family man he wants to be has his plans completely altered when he sees the World Trade Center being attacked on the news. Wasting no time, he takes action requesting to get his team of 12 men back together and strike back at the Taliban. With some convincing from fellow Green Beret Hal Spencer (Michael Shannon) who puts his retirement on hold to be part of this team, they set out to Afghanistan to meet with Warlord General Dostum (Navid Negahban).
Traveling on horseback over the mountains, they find the Taliban and strike at them from the air, but the strike doesn't take them as planned and they are forced into combat. It isn't long before they discover that the Taliban has more weapons resources than they realized and must come up with a way to cut off their access to ammunition if they hope to defeat them, but with the leaders of two different cultural armies, trust and teamwork don't come easy. Together these "horse soldiers" decide their mission must be completed with or without support from the locals in the hopes that with a victory that two nations might have a fighting chance for peace and freedom.

Moving and Courageous. The story that had to be kept secret at the time now getting to be told was worth the wait. The portrayal of how two leaders of men could find common ground and a mutual respect despite their cultural diversities gives hope to mankind that we are capable of reason and compassion. A film like this is rare and deserves only the finest rating of five G.M.Stars to those who went in as men and came out as horse soldiers.
