"The Executioners" verses "Caged" (2017)

Welcome to another MoVTie Critic "movie verses". Last time we looked at two films that played with cheating death scenarios, today we are looking at two films in where we see women turn the tables on predatory men.

Up first we have "The Executioners". We find our main character Belle (Jemma Dallender) who is still dealing with the untimely death of her father goes up into the wilderness with her girlfriends Kay (Natalie Burn), Angela (Rachel Rosenstien) and Lori (Anna Shields) to get away and have fun, but as night sets in, they soon find themselves under attack by three men wearing different color face paint and going by Mr. Red (Michael Santi), Mr. Blue (Fernando Soto Jr.) and the leader Mr. Black (Anthony Belevtsov). Their intentions soon become clear as they begin terrifying and torturing the girls, but Belle has no intention of rolling over and dying as she finds a way to take down these intruders and with the help of the others, these three intruders soon find that these women are their worst nightmare.

Next to be featured is the 2017 film (not to be confused with the 2011 film of the same name) "Caged". In a series of out of order scenes that piece the chain of events that occur in the story, we meet three women individually. Eve (Whit Kunschik) is the main focus with her colorful life and her knack for murder. Yet despite having a knack for killing, she has a soft spot for those who can't fight for themselves and is out making men like Hector (Carlos Olalla) who uses and abuse women like a friend of hers pay in more ways than one. Yet she stumbles on to something bigger involving a man that goes by JP (Sam Newman) and soon finds a newfound friend Jess (Colicia Summers) and a woman kidnapped by JP to perform in a snuff film on the Dark Web are in danger of performing in a sequel.

In an age where women are starting to take their power back over abusive and harassing men, these films couldn't have come at a better time. Both were suspenseful and vengeful. Channeling "I Spit On Your Grave" for a new age of films. Yet as always, only one can come out on top. "The Executioners" while riveting, violent and an ending that was unexpected, I felt that more could have been done to make it a more heart-racing experience. Yet the dark portrayal of violence towards women and how women can take back the power is inspiring. With that it deserves a three and a half G.M.Star rating.

⭐⭐⭐½

"Caged" while you had to put all the pieces of the puzzle together to understand how the story plays out, it grips your interest into these three women's stories and how they all come together. Eve especially is a memorable character with her off the cuff comments and dark humor, yet her heart shows us that despite her methods, she does care for other and is willing to risk her life to protect them. Something that any can aspire to. So without question, "Caged" has earned my favor in receiving four G.M.Stars and making it the "movie verses" winner.
