"The Beyond"

Since the dawn of time, man has looked up to the stars and wondered if we were truly alone in the universe. Sounds like a line from the movie at the planetarium I know, but it's true. We all wonder what lies beyond our solar system and we've only begun to scratch the surface. Yet what if something decided to come to us? How would we approach it, and more importantly, would we find a friend or foe?

In a documentary-style portrayal, Gillian (Jane Perry) who works for NASA is being documented regarding the disappearance of an astronaut Carl Roberts (Tom Christian) and the arrival of a wormhole that they have named "The Void". In order to discover what is on the other side of The Void, scientist have come up with a way to allow someone to travel through, but it requires giving up your life as a person to become a robotic version, a Human 2.0. Through trial and error, they have success with Jessica Johnson (Noeleen Comiskey with Jessica 2.0 voice by Kosha Engler). Meanwhile, Earth is experiencing these large dark spheres that have begun showing up in the sky all over the world over the course of months since The Void's arrival. It will be up to Jessica 2.0 to brave the void to find what is on the other side in hopes it will provide the answers they so desperately seek.

This has a mixtures of likes and dislikes. Overall, the film was slow-paced, much like one would expect when watching a documentary and its action scenes were minimal. However what it lacks in adrenaline excitement it makes up for in its creative storytelling and cast performance. It made you believe that this could really be happening. This science-fiction film had imagination with its human brain transplant cyborgs and the space travel that would make the late Stephen Hawking have lengthy discussion as to how this theory might work. In conclusion, this film has earned three and a half G.M.Stars for its stand-out plot and its creative effects that will be loved by any sci-fi lover.
