"Trafficked"

In this society, we hear all these horrible stories of violence towards women and how they are sold and used like property. It's a taboo subject that we would rather sweep under the rug and never talk about, yet it still happens to thousands of women every day of every year and brings in more money than most multi-million dollar businesses. Yet despite it all, some manage to escape and tell their stories.

In this film inspired by real events, we follow three women, Mali (Jessica Obilom) a Nigerian who has been in the sex slave world the longest and acts like a mother to the others. Amba (Alpa Banker) an Indian girl from a good family who was kidnapped by a rejected lover and sold off and Sara (Kelly Washington) a Californian girl who aged out of foster care and was deceptively sold off. Each of them wind up at a ranch in Texas run by a man named Simon (Sean Patrick Flanery) and are told that they must pay their debt with 500 men in order to be set free. Yet with each man that comes in the door, the harsh reality of their situation makes any chance of leaving alive seem hopeless. It will be up to them to stick together and find the strength within them if they ever hope to gain their freedom.

With all the media circulating these stories of abuse and harassment towards women, it just seemed like the right time for a film this powerful to come out. While the reality of it is graphic and frightening, it's one that must be made aware to all for it is portraying a very harsh reality. They created a riveting piece that just shows how the human spirit can be broken then put back together even stronger than before. A powerful message delivered with great execution. There's no question in my mind that this film deserves no less than five G.M.Stars for the passion and pain portrayed in the hopes we can finally get the world to listen and change.
