Meet the "Monster Family"

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. I hope you're enjoying this special day with your loved ones whoever they may be. Normally most people would do a romance movie but since I did an earlier post on the ever anticipated "Fifty Shades Freed" movie, I thought I'd choose a different kind of love, the love of family. We don't always get along, but if you think your family can be a bunch of monsters at times, how about a family that is literally monsters?

Emma Wishbone (Emily Watson) and her family are far from the ideal happy family. Frank her husband (Nick Frost) is overworked and zonks out when Emma needs him most. Their daughter Fay (Jessica Brown Fidlay) is in a hurry to grow up and is easily frustrated with her mother while their son Max (Ethan Rouse) an intelligent, but bullied boy gets little respect at school and at home around his sister.
In an effort to reconnect, Emma decides to get the family to dress up for a monster costume party, but while in search of some fake fangs, who should she accidently call but the real life Dracula (Jason Isaacs) who takes a great interest in Emma during their brief conversation. Sending the witch Baba Yaga (Catherine Tate) to do his work, she curses the family by turning the monsters they are dressed up as. Now the Wishbone family must come together to find Baba Yaga in order to restore them to their human selves and find that family and love is the most powerful magic of all.

Most of the time when I see low budget kid films, I have my doubts, but this one surprised me. The struggles and growth the characters go through in a plot that doesn't go so far out there that you're left shaking your head was refreshing. An ideal movie for children and even some adults to enjoy together. The story is creative and teaches valuable lessons of life and love that are rarely portrayed so well in children's films. For this film, I give four G.M.Stars for each of the Monster Family members whom without them wouldn't have done this movie justice.
