An evening in "Hellraiser: Judgement"

Long before the gory Saw movies, fans flocked to the thrilling horrific graphics of Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" featuring Pinhead and his Cenobites. Since then, ten films have joined the franchise including the latest "Hellraiser: Judgement".

Featuring Paul T. Taylor as Pinhead, they continue their hellish work of punishing and cleansing the souls of sinners with the assistance of Cenobites such as The Auditor (Gary J. Tunnicliffe). Meanwhile in our world, to detectives/brothers Sean and David Carter (Damon Carney and Randy Wayne) are on the hunt for a serial killer that goes by the name, "The Preceptor" who is murdering people in horrific manners based on the ten commandments. Joined by a new detective to give them a fresh set of eyes Christine Egerton (Alexandra Harris), they work off of what they know and the letters The Preceptor leaves behind to find his identity before another dead body is found.
During the search for a potential victim/suspect Sean finds a letter with an address to an old house where he stumbles into their hellish world and narrowly escapes taking one of the wooden puzzle boxes that when opened will open their hell to our world.

The twist and turns the movie takes you on can be confusing and fascinating which makes it a challenge to follow the story. Hellraiser films have always been known for their hellish creatures and gory graphic deaths of the victims that enter their world, which I'm sad to say was on the weak side and Pinhead's scenes were limited to only a few minutes at a time which as the leader doesn't do much justice for his character. While they've managed to keep their creativity as far as the creatures you will encounter there, it didn't seem to keep up with the original ideas that Clive Barker came up with when he first wrote the book. In short, this film will have to go the way of the Cenobite's victims and only get two and a half stars.
